Sales And Use Tax – Back-To-School Tax Holiday
From August 7 through August 16, 2015, Florida has a back-to-school tax holiday. During this period, no sales tax will be collected on certain clothing, footwear, and accessories selling for $100 or less; certain school supplies selling for $15 or less; and the first $750 spent on certain computers and computer accessories. The Department of Revenue has released several documents providing specific information for the holiday including: (1) a list of clothing and accessory items and their taxable status during the tax-free period; (2) FAQs for taxpayers for the back-to-school tax holiday; and (3) FAQs for business owners for the back-to-school tax holiday. The documents can be accessed by clicking here.
At least 16 other states offer tax holidays, including: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. For more information, click here.
